GIVEAWAY: THREE Starters from Cultures for Health

As I embarked on my real food journey, Cultures for Health quickly became one of my favorite resources.  By now, I have used them for years, and I have steadily recommended them to everyone that I know both in person and online.  I mean, look at that beautiful strawberry water kefir!

I have tried several of their starters over the years, and they never disappoint.  My first starter was a sourdough starter that worked beautifully and helped me gain confidence in the kitchen as I learned about traditional foods.

So that is why I’m so excited to do a giveaway of THREE STARTERS from Cultures for Health!  If you win, you’ll be able to choose three different varieties and start making lacto-ferments at home like a boss.

What Do You Get?

Let’s get down to it, shall we?  Cultures for Health is offering not one but three of their starter cultures.  Take your pick of one each: a yogurt starter, a set of kefir grains, and a sourdough starter.  You’ll be a fermenting pro in no time!

  1. I really, really want to make a great sourdough, at home, by myself, using whole wheat flour and I am totally intrigued by the grains. This whole new traditional world that I am just discovering. It’s like being on an archaeological dig and discovering an amazing treasure.

  9. I entered. Our family recently changed to a real food diet and besides feeling more healthy, we are having a lot of fun. It would be great to get a few free starters for some more experimentation. I definitely want to try kefir water.

  11. Wow! This giveaway is exactly what I’ve been needing! I really want to start making my own sourdough, and a starter would help! And we’ve been drinking milk kefir, but I”m realizing that we may not be able to tolerate milk very well. So I really want to try water kefir. And the yogurt starter would be wonderful too. Adding all these probiotics into our diet would be a great way to start the school year and protect ourselves from germs. Thanks so much for offering all of this!

  15. I would love to try these cultures. I have two daughters, one with a life-threatening medical condition, MMA, and the other is frequently sick; I believe it’s due to her having her full vaccinations before I knew better. They really need more fermented/cultured foods in their diet. I have started with foods I can use whey in, but I need to do more. These cultures would allow me to try kefir and sourdough bread. And hopefully the added probiotics will help them both with their healing. Thanks!

  21. I’m especially interested in the yogurt starter, as I have had varying success using storebought yogurt as a starter for my own yogurt.

  25. Great timing! I would love to try the yogurt starter since I’ve just begun making my own. I also just watched a video this morning on making my own sourdough starter but have heard it’s more reliable with a starter from CFH. Would LOVE them all!!

  27. I used to love making yogurt, kefir and sourdough bread but let all my cultures slide a little too long when we moved recently…I would love to get some new ones going and get back in the swing of things! Nothing beats homemade!

  29. I signed up. I would love to win this giveaway….I was just looking at some of the Cultures for Health starters the other day, and waiting to order till my budget allowed. My son suffers from a severe sensory processing disorder, and my family recently started the full GAPS diet (we’re moving backwards due to a few concerns such as breastfeeding), to help and hopefully heal him. I am so excited to learn lacto-fermentation!

  37. The timing of this giveaway is great! This Fall, I want to expand the fermenting and culturing I’ve been doing. I have instructions for getting sourdough, but they indicate that using a starter is more reliable. I’ve been making a basic yogurt, and look forward to branching out into other dairy culturing.

  41. I’ve never tried kefir, so I am interested in that one just because it is new. I’d love the sourdough because I’ve been trying for a long time now to get my own stared using flour and water, and have not had the greatest results–I’m about ready to throw in the towel on that one!

  43. I tried the kefir starter from Cultures for Health and did not have any luck with them. I like the idea of making my own bread instead of buying what is out in the stores and would like to try making sourdough bread – it really sounds delicious and so healthy.

  51. I signed up for the newsletter. I am just beginning my adventure of whole and traditional foods. Winning these cultures would be a huge step in getting me out of the stores by allowing me to make my own bread, water kefir beverages and yogurt. I get all tingly just thinking about it. I’m not off grid but making my own real food is a version of that – off the adulterated food grid! Thanks for the chance to win :D

I have been off of dairy for 6 months along with my son. We are doing great and are getting ready to reintroduce dairy in the fall. Cultured forms will be the place we start, so having some new starters would be great, not to mention we got rid of our old yogurt starters when we went dairy free. :)
